How can I stop my Wireless LAN connecting to a nearby unsecured network?

It really is so annoying. Almost every time I start up my laptop instead of connecting to my downstairs router which is my default network, it either connects to a nearby unsecured network or to no network at all.

I'm running Windows Vista and have removed the unsecured network in the Network and Sharing Center countless times. My LAN is also set to automatically connect to my router so I don't understand what the problem is - even though I'm an experienced PC user!

Any help will be greatly appreciated. How can I stop my Wireless LAN connecting to a nearby unsecured network?
Change the SSID of your router to something unique. Don't use the default setting. Change it to FuryOfATimeLordNet or some such.

Once you've connected to your new SSID, then delete the old one with the defaults and you'll never have the problem again. How can I stop my Wireless LAN connecting to a nearby unsecured network?

start%26gt;control panel%26gt;network and internet connection%26gt;network connection.

select your W-LAN adapter and click your right mouse, and select disable.
