I have a desktop computer with Comcast cable internet. I want to set up a home wireless network for family member's and visitor's laptops to work in other rooms but I want to leave my desktop connected to the cable. How do I set up that connection? It appears that the cable from the cable modem has to connect to either my desktop or to a router but not both. So it would be Cable Modem %26gt; Router %26gt; Desktop
You can connect the cable to from the cable modem to the router, and connect the main computer to the one of the router's wired network jacks.
Take note of the cable company's tech support number: sometimes you have to call in the router's MAC address to get your connection live again.
You should hook up the router to the cable modem and move your computer to the router. Reset the devices and test your internet connection. You may need to click start, run and enter ipconfig /release and then a ipconfig /renew for the router to assign an IP address.
You won't need a modem if you have a router. If you are able to connect to the router with an ethernet cable, then do so. Your router has a firewall installed so it's safer than a modem. Alternatively connect wirelessly.

How do you replace the extended network box on myspace with an image?
I've tried all the codes that I could find and they all don't have what I want. I don't want to replace the extended network area with a banner. I want to replace it with an actual image. Not a 435x75 banner. But a rectangular image. I'm using a still image. I've tried to fix the size and it just won't show up. I don't know if I just haven't been searching hard enough or if I'm doing something wrong. Well I will need to know this from all the network administrators. However, if you want to try automatic restoration(which cannot guarantee), you can repair Windows XP with a CD.

The answers here all tell you how to secure the network.. That's good but if you mean you need to set your network to PRIVATE its only a Vista THING.
Click on Control Panel, then Network and Sharing Center.
You will see a ';picture'; of your current connection and under that you will see the SSID (network name) then to the right of that is a button that says Customize.
Click that and change the network from PUBLIC to PRIVATE.. This will allow file sharing on the system.

If you'd like to encrypt your connection, you may be able to do so by logging into your router by typing 192.168.0.1 into a browser and then entering your username and password.
If you don't know what your username and password are, you may want to try using one of the combination below.

Password: admin
Once you've logged in to your router, you should look for a page called Security or something similar to that and then set a WEP key.
