Basically, I brought a laptop ( Advent 5612 ) and its a wireless connection to the internet and my brother has a PC and his network is called Belkin so I clicked on it and it said I needed a password. He said he didn't add a password. There's is also others to choose (next door neighbours internet) but I also need a password. Is there any other way to connect to the Internet? How can you connect to a network using a laptop wireless?
It is asking you for the security key on the bottom of the router. Just type in that number and you should be able to connect to your brother's network. How can you connect to a network using a laptop wireless?
If it asks for a password, then you need a password. That's to keep the neighbors off your internet connection. While it really doesn't hurt for the neighbor to use your connection, if you have a home network set up, you don't want the neighbors looking at stuff on your home computers, which they could do if you didn't protect the modem with a password.
He probably just doesn't remember doing it because you can elect to have your computer ';remember'; the password and you never have to enter it again. So that's probably what he did.
Ask him to reset his security preferences on his modem and then you can use it.
Or maybe the Belkin you're seeing isn't his; maybe it is one of the neighbors as well?
Usually on the base of the wireless router there should be a wireless key code. Use this when prompted to join the network.
Unless your neighbour is willing to give you their code there is nothing you can do
